Narrative Medicine

Narrative medicine is an interdisciplinary field and medical approach that utilizes people’s narratives in clinical practice, research, and education as a way to promote healing of all who seek and deliver health cae.

The goal is to address the relational and psychological dimensions that occur in tandem with physical illness, with the attempt to treat patients as humans with individual stories, rather than purely based on symptoms.[1]

Narrative medicine aims not only to validate the experience of the patient but also to encourage creativity and self-reflection in the physician.[2It enables both, patients and caregivers, to voice their experience, to be heard,  recognized, and valued.

The ultimatum goal is to improve and humanize the delivery of health care.
